Serving others is often incredibly uncomfortable. Maybe part of the reason is that the media frequently tells us how we "deserve" this, that and the other. So we begin to think life is all about us. Instead, the exact opposite is true. Life is all about God which includes living out Christ's example of service found in Philippians, chapter 2. Christian author Max Lucado says it this way, "It's what we do for Christ in the here and now that will make a difference in the then and there." At New Hope we believe that to grow in Christ-likeness we must serve even when it makes us feel uncomfortable.
The Israelites were given a strong word of admonition in the book of Isaiah, chapter 1 about how meaningless their worship became to God. Why? It appears that it became just another worship service without any worship through service. Verse 17 goes on to conclude with - "Learn to do good. Seek justice. Help the oppressed. Defend the cause of orphans. Fight for the rights of widows."
If you are interested in showing the love of Christ to people through service, God tells us in His word that He has "good works which God has prepared in advance for us to do." (Ephesians 2:10).
